Activity Themes

Match enrichment to your curriculum. When booking an activity, choose a theme that matches your teaching. This invites 40 computer scientists whose work relates to that theme.

These themes will be available throughout the whole year, so you can take part whenever suits you best.

Please let us know if there are other themes you would like to see us offer. Email: support@imascientist.org.uk

Cyber Security

For students, cyber security is a part of life, whether it’s changing their passwords regularly or hearing about cyber attacks on the news..

By connecting with scientists working in this field, it will help them with their understanding of computer programming, trustworthiness and using technology safely, as well as giving them a real life insight to cyber security and its purpose. Students could speak to Stephen, who is completing a PhD in automotive cybersecurity, or Ryan, a security engineer, who works to protect banks from cyber crime.

Questions students have asked:

  1. What is the future of cyber security?
  2. Will it ever be possible to develop a system which is ‘unhackable’?
  3. Have you ever considered the use of cyber security to improve the security of tech you use?
  4. What is the hardest thing to get through in cyber security?

Resources to help prepare:

  1. Introduction to Cyber Security For Teachers – NCCE
  2. UK Cyber Security Council – Learning Resources
  3. Courses and Resources – NCSC
  4. Introduction to Cyber Security – NCCE

Cyber Security -themed activities are supported by NCCE. Places are fully funded for state-maintained schools.
